Detained man killed in shootout

The attackers opened indiscriminate fire on the police convoy.

LAHORE:

A shootout occurred between the Crime Control Department (CCD) Iqbal Town and criminals, resulting in the death of a detained suspect, Asif Khan, allegedly because of firing by his accomplices.

According to officials, CCD personnel were transporting Asif, a criminal with hundreds of serious offences, including robberies and vehicle thefts on his record, to Sherakot for the recovery of stolen goods and identification of his accomplices when unidentified assailants ambushed the police in a brazen attempt to free him.

The attackers opened indiscriminate fire on the police convoy, during which Asif was injured. He succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to a hospital.

Meanwhile, a 37-year-old prisoner, Nadeem Bashir, passed away while receiving treatment at Services Hospital in Shadman. According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, the deceased was facing charges in a narcotics case and had been lodged at Camp Jail before being admitted to the hospital.
