The Sindh government has officially declared May 1 as a public holiday across the province in observance of International Labour Day, a global tribute to workers' rights and contributions.
A notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department confirmed that all government and semi-government offices will remain closed. The holiday will also extend to educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities.
Observed annually on May 1, Labour Day—also known as May Day—is a day of international recognition for the working class. It serves as a reminder of the need to protect the rights of labourers, promote fair employment practices, and guard against exploitation in the workplace.
The decision by the Sindh government aligns with global traditions that honour the sacrifices and achievements of workers, while also emphasising the importance of ensuring safe and equitable working conditions.
