In light of escalating tensions with India following the Pahalgam attack, the federal government has directed oil companies and refineries to ensure maximum availability of diesel and jet fuel, Express News reported on Friday.
Sources within oil marketing firms confirmed that the directive was issued shortly after the Pahalgam incident intensified the regional security environment.
The Directorate General of Oil has instructed PSO and other importers to expedite petroleum imports and maintain high reserves to avoid supply disruption in case of emergency.
Oil refineries and marketing companies have been told to secure ample quantities of high-speed diesel and jet fuel specifically.
Petroleum officials stated that current fuel stocks — including aviation and transport-grade fuels — are sufficient, but precautionary measures are being implemented under emergency protocols.
Tensions between India and Pakistan are once again on the rise with fears of further escalation in the aftermath of the deadly Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
India, in a unilateral move, suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, downgraded diplomatic relations, ordered Pakistanis to leave India and sealed the Attari-Wagah border crossing, halting civilian movement and trade.
In response, Pakistan warned that any attempt by India to block water flow into Pakistan would be treated as an act of war. The statement followed a high-level NSC meeting, which also approved the closure of the Wagah border crossing.
