Instagram has officially rolled out a new standalone video-editing app called Edits, now available worldwide on both the App Store and Google Play Store.

The launch is a clear move to compete with TikTok’s popular CapCut, offering users a powerful set of tools to create and customise videos directly from their phones.

Designed for crafting content for Instagram Reels or any other platform, Edits includes a variety of features that position it as a serious contender in mobile video editing.

Users can take advantage of long-camera capture, manage multiple projects at once, and export videos without any watermarks, a key draw for creators looking for clean, professional results.

The app also boasts a frame-accurate timeline for precise editing at the clip level, plus enhanced tools specifically made for refining audio. Among its creative features are green screen capabilities, smooth transitions, and AI-powered image animation.

For those seeking inspiration or trying to stay on trend, Edits comes with two dedicated tabs: Inspiration and Ideas. The Inspiration tab lets users explore trending Reels and audio, offering the option to save them for later use.

Meanwhile, the Ideas tab allows users to organise their content plans, keep track of notes, and save useful Reels for future projects.

In a press release, Instagram said, "We want to build the best creative tools to help creators express themselves, not just on Instagram or Facebook, but on any platform. We have more exciting features coming soon and will keep listening to feedback to improve the app every week."

The app’s release comes about three months after Instagram head Adam Mosseri first teased it.

At the time, he described Edits as a "full suite of creative tools."

Now, with its official debut, Instagram is doubling down on its promise to empower creators with next-level editing capabilities — whether they stick to Meta platforms or go beyond.
