The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) flyover will be remain closed for one month as the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) begins crucial repair and maintenance work to ensure structural safety, confirmed Mayor Murtaza Wahab.

To ease the impact on commuters, a detailed traffic diversion plan has been developed in coordination with the Karachi Traffic Police, outlining alternative routes. Citizens are advised to follow the new routes to avoid congestion.

The announcement comes as the city reels from ongoing electricity outages, which have sparked widespread protests.

Residents in localities such as Liaquatabad and Azizabad staged demonstrations on major roads, burning tyres and chanting slogans against K-Electric and government authorities.

The protests, driven by lengthy power cuts during extreme heat, caused severe traffic disruptions on several key routes.

Authorities have urged calm and assured citizens of efforts to resolve both infrastructural and utility concerns.

In Karachi, this was one of the first few bridges that were built as a multi-level structure.

Further, the nature of road layout where multiple merging and exiting ramps are provided at the bridge was a unique element of this flyover interchange.
