Netflix has officially announced the release date for The Old Guard 2, the long-awaited sequel to its hit 2020 action film starring Charlize Theron.

The sequel will premiere globally on the streaming platform on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Directed by Victoria Mahoney—taking over from Gina Prince-Bythewood—and written by Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker, The Old Guard 2 continues the story of Andy (Theron) and her immortal warrior team. The film has been in limbo since completing principal photography in 2022, delayed by internal changes at Netflix and a stalled post-production process. Theron, who also produces, acknowledged the delays but expressed excitement about the sequel’s upcoming release.

Returning alongside Theron are KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngô, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. New cast members include Henry Golding and Uma Thurman.

According to the official synopsis, Andy faces a new existential threat as she wrestles with her fading immortality. Meanwhile, Quynh (Ngô) resurfaces seeking revenge, and Booker (Schoenaerts) remains in exile. The team’s fate may rest in the hands of Tuah (Golding), a mysterious ally tied to the origins of their immortality.

The Old Guard franchise is based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández and has been praised for its blend of high-octane action and emotional storytelling. With a strong fan base and star-studded ensemble, The Old Guard 2 is expected to be one of Netflix’s biggest action releases of 2025.
