Netflix has announced that its popular coming-of-age series Heartstopper will conclude with a feature-length film. The streamer shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, confirming the movie will serve as the final chapter, based on Alice Oseman’s upcoming sixth volume of the Heartstopper graphic novel series.

Netflix wrote that Heartstopper will return for its final chapter as a movie. The film will reunite Kit Connor and Joe Locke as Nick and Charlie, who will also serve as executive producers on the project.

As confirmed by Netflix’s Tudum, series creator Alice Oseman has written the screenplay, with Still Alice director Wash Westmoreland set to helm the film. Production is scheduled to begin this summer.

In a statement, Oseman said, “I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story. I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion.”

The film picks up after Season 3, with Nick and Charlie in love but facing the reality of a long-distance relationship as Nick prepares to leave for university. As Charlie finds independence at school, doubts begin to surface, putting their relationship to its greatest test.

Over three seasons, Heartstopper earned critical acclaim for its heartfelt storytelling and LGBTQ+ representation. The film will serve as the official conclusion to the beloved Netflix series.
