DERA GHAZI KHAN:

Two policemen were martyred during an exchange of fire between law enforcement and armed robbers in the jurisdiction of Saddar Taunsa Police Station on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when police received intelligence about the presence of armed robbers near Daira Shah Pul.

Acting on the tip-off, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ghulam Shabbir and his team reached the area. However, the suspects opened fire upon spotting the police, triggering an intense shootout.

ASI Ghulam Shabbir and Constable Ghulam Farid sustained fatal injuries in the exchange and were martyred on the spot, while the robbers managed to flee.

Following the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Ghazi Khan Syed Ali, along with SDPO Taunsa and other senior officials, reached the site and launched a comprehensive search operation to apprehend the culprits.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar paid rich tribute to the martyred officers, calling them the pride of the police force.

"Their sacrifices will always be remembered, and the department will ensure all possible support for their families," he said.

As of the last reports, heavy firing continued in the area during the ongoing search operation.

The funeral prayers of ASI Ghulam Shabbir and Constable Ghulam Farid were held at the Police Lines with full honours.
