BATTAGRAM:

An 18-year-old youth tragically lost his life after being hit by an over-speeding vehicle on Tuesday. The police have taken the driver and the vehicle into custody following the incident.

According to details, a speeding poultry transport vehicle coming from Bisham struck the teenager, Ehsan, son of Khan Zaman, near Hotel Deshan on the CPEC (Hazara Expressway). He succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital.

The Chanjal police have arrested the negligent driver, Iqbal Hussain son of Khan Badshah, a resident of Bele Baba in district Shangla, and impounded the vehicle.

The funeral prayer for the deceased was offered at 6pm on the CPEC route itself. Following the funeral, a large number of residents, along with workers from various political parties and local organisations, staged a sit-in protest at the site of the accident on this key international highway.

Prominent speakers at the protest included Allama Atta Muhammad Deshani, provincial president of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, and Saeed Ahmad Malakal, former National Assembly candidate from Jamaat-e-Islami, among others. They demanded that the administration take immediate steps to make the highway safer and impose a strict speed limit between Thakot and the Katkoi Tunnel.
