Tyla is not here for the outfit comparisons at Coachella...despite similarities

Tyla has spoken out after fans drew comparisons between her Coachella outfit and Britney Spears’ iconic 2001 MTV VMAs look.

The Water singer, 23, took the stage during weekend two of the festival on Friday wearing a bold ensemble that quickly sparked discussion online.

Her outfit featured a pair of micro denim shorts adorned with beaded tassel fringe and green feather detailing.

She paired it with a vibrant green bralette top decorated with purple floral accents and a silver body chain draped around her waist and chest. Completing the look, Tyla wore knee-high grey boots in crocodile-embossed material.

Given the styling, fans couldn’t help but note its similarities to Britney Spears’ unforgettable VMAs performance of I’m A Slave 4 U, where the pop star wore a green bralette and dark blue embellished shorts with flowing fabric on the sides plus, famously carried a snake onstage.

That performance has become one of the most referenced looks in pop culture history and remains a top Halloween costume to this day. So, we’re not gonna lie, we thought it was inspired by Britney too.

However, Tyla took to X to shut down the comparisons, writing in response to a now-deleted tweet, “Love her but i just thought the outfit was fly...no inspo.”

When one user accused her of being “a copycat and too full of herself,” Tyla clapped back: “Personally I think you should stfu.”

Despite Tyla’s denial, fans continued to share their takes online.

Another user explained, “That's what inspo 'inspiration' means. You liked the outfit that means you were inspired by it.”

This is not the first time Tyla has addressed comparisons to Britney.

Speaking to Dazed Magazine last year about the Water music video, she said, “Honestly, when people bring up these references, most of the time there was never a reference.” She went on to say, “It's never, 'Make the video look completely like this.' It's getting boring now.”
