Cillian Murphy tipped as favorite to play Voldemort in new Harry Potter TV series

Cillian Murphy has become the frontrunner to play the iconic role of Voldemort in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, with fans and even some of the franchise’s previous stars throwing their support behind the Irish actor.

Known for his roles in Oppenheimer and Peaky Blinders, Murphy has been widely discussed as a potential fit for the Dark Lord, a role previously portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in the films.

As per Lad Bible, since the announcement of the HBO series in April 2023, rumors have swirled about who will fill the villainous role, with Murphy’s name frequently appearing in fan discussions. Following the confirmation of several cast members, the speculation has intensified, with fans expressing excitement at the prospect of Murphy bringing his intensity to the character. “This could cook,” one fan commented, while another noted, “He’s literally the only actor who can pull off Voldemort without CGI.”

The speculation has even caught the attention of Fiennes, who gave his blessing for Murphy to take over the role. Appearing on Watch What Happens Live in December, Fiennes praised Murphy as a “fantastic actor” and expressed his support for him taking on the part.

The buzz surrounding Murphy has also extended to bookmakers, with William Hill listing him as the favorite to play Voldemort at odds of 2/1. Other contenders include Bill Skarsgård (9/2) and Fiennes himself, who remains a potential choice at 5/1.

Director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two Harry Potter films, has also voiced his admiration for Murphy, stating that he would be thrilled to see the actor take on the role. With the excitement growing, fans are eagerly awaiting an official casting announcement.
