The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has denied media reports suggesting it has formally ruled out an alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), calling such claims unverified.
In a statement issued on Sunday, a spokesperson for JUI-F said that no official announcement has yet been made regarding decisions taken during the party’s recently concluded two-day Central General Council meeting.
The spokesperson emphasised that “news reports circulating in the media do not reflect any formal statement from the party.”
The clarification comes in response to widespread local media coverage claiming that the JUI-F has decided not to ally with PTI or join any coalition formed at its behest.
These reports also suggested the party had resolved to maintain an independent opposition role in parliament and to assess parliamentary matters on a case-by-case basis.
The party confirmed that key decisions were made during the meeting, but said they will be officially disclosed in due course.
In January, a delegation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence, inviting the party to join a proposed grand opposition alliance against the government.
Later in March, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that the party would make a decision regarding a potential alliance with PTI after Eidul Fitr.
