PTI clears K-P Speaker Babar Swati in corruption probe

An internal accountability committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has cleared Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati of allegations related to unlawful appointments.

The committee report, released by legal member Qazi Anwar Advocate, states that the accusations were made by former senator Azam Swati but were not substantiated with evidence.

According to the findings, the appointments in question either occurred before Babar Swati’s tenure or were made in accordance with established procedures.

The report further claims that Swati is being targeted due to his loyalty to PTI’s founding chairman and his spouse, rather than for any administrative misconduct.

The committee also noted that Babar Swati had addressed the assembly last November regarding police action against PTI workers at D-Chowk in Islamabad. The speech reportedly led to wider debate in the house, with participation from both government and opposition members.

The report highlights Swati’s role in raising issues such as the Katlang incident, where he initiated discussion and saw a resolution passed by the assembly.

The committee concluded that Swati’s political stance and internal party loyalty are the underlying reasons for the pressure he is currently facing.
