
Following the recent boat incident at Tarbela Dam Lake, the local administration has sprung into action by initiating inspections of passenger boats and issuing new safety SOPs.
The Additional Assistant Commissioner-II Haripur, accompanied by the Additional Assistant Commissioner-I, the Deputy Director Livestock, the Assistant Director Fisheries, the Rescue 1122 In-Charge, the Motor Vehicle Examiner Haripur, TMA officials, and the president of the Boating Association, visited the Padana area of Tarbela Lake.
During the visit, various aspects related to passenger transportation by boat were reviewed, including travel facilities, safety protocols, overloading, and associated concerns. The president of the Boating Association was issued special instructions focusing on passenger safety and prevention of overloading to help avoid future boating accidents.
The administration emphasised the immediate removal of old and deteriorated boats and stressed that overloading must be strictly avoided. Ensuring the availability of life jackets for all passengers crossing the lake was declared mandatory.
Later, Additional AC-II also visited the Fisheries Department in Haripur. During the visit, officials from the department gave a detailed briefing and their services were thoroughly reviewed.
