Protesters in Thatta hurled stones at the vehicle of Minister of State for Religious Affairs, Kheeal Das Kohistani, during a demonstration against disputed irrigation canals.
According to Express News, the incident occurred when Kohistani's convoy attempted to pass through an area where members of nationalist parties were staging a protest.
The demonstrators, angered by the presence of the convoy, began pelting the vehicle with eggs and tomatoes while chanting slogans. However, the convoy managed to safely leave the scene without further confrontation.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar strongly condemned the incident, calling it an "attack" on a public representative. He contacted Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon to request a detailed report and also directed the federal interior secretary to submit an account of the incident.
“Attacks on public officials are unacceptable,” Tarar said, urging the Sindh government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and to bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also took notice of the attack and issued a strong condemnation. In a statement, he said, “No one has the right to take the law into their own hands.” He instructed Hyderabad DIG to immediately arrest those involved and submit a full report on the incident.
The authorities are now under pressure to respond promptly and ensure accountability following the assault on the state minister's convoy.
