KARACHI:

Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has issued a notification announcing new government-approved prices for naan and chapati across the city, aiming to curb arbitrary price hikes and protect consumer rights.

According to the official rate list, a 100-gram chapati will be sold for Rs10, a 120-gram naan for Rs15, a 150-gram naan for Rs17, and a 180-gram naan for Rs22.

The commissioner directed all tandoor owners to prominently display the new price list at their shops, making it easily visible to customers. He warned that any violations or overpricing would lead to strict legal action.

Naqvi urged citizens to report any instances of naan or chapati being sold above the fixed rates. He announced the establishment of a control room to monitor compliance and respond to complaints. Citizens can report violations by calling 021-99203443.

"Immediate action will be taken against violators. The official price list must be displayed at every tandoor and shop," he said, emphasising transparency and accountability in the enforcement process.
