Meeting of committee held under chairmanship of MPA Sher Ali Afridi to curb illegal fishing, unauthorized fish farms

PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly's standing committee No 38 on Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives has emphasized the need to establish a robust mechanism for monitoring fishing activities and ensuring transparency in the award of contracts.

A meeting of the committee was held under the chairmanship of MPA Sher Ali Afridi, attended by Arbab Muhammad Usman Khan, Ikram Ullah Ghazi, Malik Adeel Iqbal and Abdul Mumin. The committee extensively discussed issues pertaining to illegal fishing and unauthorized fish farming in the K-P.

The committee emphasized the need for strong legal measures to curb these unlawful activities.

Members called for a comprehensive strategy to ensure proper regulation, oversight, and balance in fishing operations, as well as a review of existing contracts where necessary.

The meeting sought a report regarding situation in Tarbela and Khanpur Dams for review in the next session.

Additionally, the meeting directed that data from the past five years regarding postings and transfers in the Fisheries Department be presented at the next hearing.
