Tristan Stubbs held his nerve in a tense Super Over finish as Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals in a dramatic Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, reclaiming the top spot on the points table.

After both sides were tied at 202 runs at the end of regulation play, Delhi successfully chased 12 in the one-over decider, with Stubbs smashing a towering six off Sandeep Sharma to seal the win.

It was the IPL’s first Super Over since 2021 and the 15th overall in the league’s history.

Nitish Rana and Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a brisk 51 each and shared a crucial 49-run stand with Dhruv Jurel before Mitchell Starc’s disciplined death bowling pegged the Royals back.

Jurel’s 29 and Shimron Hetmyer’s 15 were not enough to finish the job, with the Royals only able to level the score and force a Super Over.

In the Super Over, although Starc’s bowled a no-ball but two run outs limit the Royals to 11. Delhi responded calmly, with Rahul and Stubbs guiding them home with three balls to spare.
