Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Pakistan will accelerate its national development by providing opportunities and resources to its youth, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister announced that the government would send 300 students — selected from a group of 1,000 agricultural graduates — to China for specialised training in modern farming techniques.

PM Shehbaz emphasised that young people are the nation’s greatest asset and that investing in their skills is crucial to regaining Pakistan’s rightful place in the world.

“These students will acquire advanced expertise abroad and then contribute to national progress upon their return,” he said. “We aim to transform rural communities by equipping our youth with modern knowledge and entrepreneurial opportunities.”

The prime minister highlighted that after completing their education, the graduates will be encouraged to launch entrepreneurial ventures in their respective fields, particularly in rural areas.

The government, he said, will provide them with subsidies, facilities, and low-interest loans to support these initiatives.

PM Shehbaz praised China as Pakistan’s closest ally and expressed gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping for agreeing to host the Pakistani students. He said his visit to an agricultural university in Xi’s hometown had revealed remarkable facilities and technological advancements.

He urged the graduates to study China’s agricultural development model and bring its best practices back to Pakistan to help boost productivity and exports.

The prime minister added that students selected for the training programme come from all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, and reaffirmed that the selection process was entirely merit-based.

PM Shehbaz reiterated the government’s commitment to increasing agricultural capacity and ensuring youth-led innovation for long-term national growth.
