A bizarre incident of motorcycle theft occurred when the City Traffic Police Rawalpindi warden took a motorcyclist to the traffic office for not possessing a driving licence. While the man was inside, a thief stole his motorcycle parked outside on the road.
The distressed motorcyclist was left shocked and upset, as his new motorcycle, valued at over Rs200,000, vanished during the brief absence.
In a complaint submitted at the Race Course police station, Malik Naqash, a resident of Dhok Chaudhrian, stated that he was passing by Qasim Market on his motorcycle around 2pm when a traffic warden, Jahangir, stopped him and asked for his licence. When he told the warden that he didn't have a licence, he took him to the traffic police licence office to get a learner's permit. When he returned, the motorcycle was not there where he had parked it.
When contacted, Naqash further said that where the traffic warden stopped him, other wardens and citizens were standing, but the warden took him along to get a licence on the motorcycle and made him park the motorcycle on the roadside. When he asked the warden to let him park the motorcycle in a safe place, the warden replied its safe there. The footage from nearby CCTV cameras should be reviewed and the motorcycle should be recovered, he demanded.
