Queen Camilla has shared the secret to her two-decade-long marriage with King Charles III, marking their 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday.

Speaking to British print journalists during a visit to Rome, the Queen Consort said the cornerstone of their relationship has been “friendship, laughing at the same things, getting on with life.”

“We are always going in different directions, like ships that pass in the night,” she added, describing how their individual pursuits have helped maintain harmony in their royal union.

Royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah first reported Camilla’s comments via X, formerly Twitter, highlighting the Queen’s candid take on her marriage to the monarch.

Reflecting on their milestone, Camilla joked, “Twenty years, who could believe it was 20 years?” When asked if the King, currently undergoing cancer treatment, might eventually slow down, her quip was swift: “Dream on.”

The couple wed on 9 April 2005 in a civil ceremony at Windsor Guildhall, followed by a blessing at St George’s Chapel. Their relationship, once controversial, has evolved into a widely accepted and celebrated royal partnership.

Despite recent challenges surrounding the King's health, Queen Camilla has maintained a steady presence by his side, taking on an increasing number of royal duties.
