QUETTA:

Local residents of Quetta have been left without a reliable public transport system after the suspension of the Green Bus Service for over a week.

The service, widely used by the middle- and lower-income population, was abruptly stopped without any public notice, causing daily hardship for thousands.

The provincial government has yet to issue a formal explanation regarding the sudden discontinuation of the bus service.

However, locals speculate that the decision may be linked to security concerns in the area. Despite this, the lack of transparency has only fueled public frustration.

For over a year, the Green Bus Service served as a vital mode of affordable and decent transportation for office workers, students, and laborers. Its suspension has pushed many to rely on costly alternatives such as rickshaws and taxis, adding financial strain to already burdened households.

"This bus was my only way to reach work on time without spending half of my salary on transport," said Abid Khan, a garment factory worker.

"I've been using this service for over a year. It was clean, affordable, and safe. Now I'm forced to walk long distances," shared Gul Bano, a schoolteacher.

"As a student, I can't afford daily rickshaw fares. The Green Bus was a lifeline for us," said Saeed Ahmad, a university student.
