Netflix has officially announced the lead cast for its upcoming limited series adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, featuring Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet.
The six-episode series, a faithful retelling of Jane Austen’s classic novel, will also star Jack Lowden as the iconic Mr. Darcy.
The project is penned by Dolly Alderton, best known for her memoir Everything I Know About Love, and will be directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper). Filming is slated to begin in the U.K. later this year.
Corrin, who rose to fame portraying Princess Diana in The Crown, also steps into a producer role for the first time. They join Alderton, Lyn, Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter in executive producing the series for Lookout Point. Lisa Osborne is on board as producer.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Corrin. “Bringing Elizabeth Bennet to life alongside Olivia and Jack, and with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly an honor.”
Alderton shared similar enthusiasm: “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy. I’m excited to introduce these hilarious and complicated characters to both longtime fans and new audiences.”
With a powerhouse creative team and an A-list cast, Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice is shaping up to be a fresh yet faithful take on one of literature’s most beloved stories.
