UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Magomed Ankalaev has teased a potential rematch with Alex Pereira, hinting that the highly anticipated bout could take place in August. After winning the title last month, Ankalaev is now preparing to defend it for the first time, with a showdown against the former champion on the horizon.
Magomed Ankalaev, fresh off claiming the UFC light heavyweight title and making history as the first Russian fighter to hold the belt, is already focused on his first title defense.
The 32-year-old dominated several contenders on his path to the championship and earned a unanimous decision victory over Alex Pereira at UFC 313 on March 8. Despite the close nature of their first encounter, it was Ankalaev who emerged victorious.
Now, just one month after their first clash, Ankalaev has set his sights on a rematch with Pereira, and he may have hinted at the date. The Russian fighter took to social media to suggest an August showdown, teasing fans with the possibility of an epic battle in Chicago, Illinois.
The UFC is set to return to Chicago later in the year for the first time since 2019, and Ankalaev made sure to spark excitement with his playful posts.
“Who likes deep dish pizza?” Ankalaev posted on X, referencing the city's famous culinary offering while hinting at his return to the Windy City for a rematch with Pereira.

Though his comments may not sit well with Pereira and his fans, Ankalaev is clearly eager for the upcoming bout. Pereira, however, isn’t dwelling on the loss.
After the defeat at UFC 313, he expressed his intent to return stronger, vowing to make adjustments for the rematch.
"I’ll be back like I’ve always done. This has already happened sometimes, but I’m good..." Pereira said following the loss. "Gonna make some adjustments for the rematch, and I’ll be back much better. You can count on it… Never give up on your dreams. Chama."
While the official date for the rematch has yet to be confirmed, reports suggest it could take place in August, potentially at UFC 318 or UFC 319. With the fight now a real possibility, fans are eagerly awaiting a thrilling showdown between two of the UFC’s top light heavyweights.
