Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police and arrested for attempted murder after a chaotic law enforcement response to a hit-and-run in Los Angeles, according to officials.

The incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon when California Highway Patrol and LAPD officers responded to a hit-and-run crash on a freeway near the Eagle Rock neighborhood. Three suspects fled the scene on foot. One individual exited his vehicle, climbed an embankment, and entered a nearby residential area.

While officers were canvassing the neighborhood, they entered the backyard of a home where one of the suspects had fled. Lauren, whose home is next door and who is not believed to be connected to the suspects, appeared outside with a firearm in hand.

Police say she ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon and allegedly pointed it at officers. They opened fire, striking her in the shoulder.

Lauren then ran back into her home. About 30 minutes later, she and a babysitter emerged with their hands raised and surrendered. She was treated for a non-life-threatening injury at a nearby hospital and later booked for attempted murder. Officers say they recovered a 9mm handgun at the residence.

The original suspect was taken into custody. The two other individuals involved in the hit-and-run remain at large.

Lauren is an author best known for her memoir Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, which details her time as a guest of the Prince of Brunei. The incident occurred just days before Weezer is scheduled to perform at the Coachella music festival.
