Snow melt triggers stream flood in Chitral
A high-level flood in Ghot Gol stream in the Morkho area of Upper Chitral forced the evacuation of local residents to safer locations, while heavy flooding near Drosh caused closed the Peshawar-Chitral Road for all types of traffic, officials said on Wednesday.
The flood was triggered by the melting of snow on the surrounding mountains. Local administration officials said the strong floodwaters caused significant damage to crops and several connecting roads near the stream. However, there were no casualties, because of timely evacuation measures.
At Kaldam Shahingar near Drosh, meanwhile, heavy flooding closed of the Peshawar-Chitral Road to all types of traffic.
