The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert forecasting heatwave-like conditions in southern parts of the country from Tuesday, April 8, until April 11.
Temperatures in Sindh, parts of Balochistan, and central and southern Punjab are expected to remain 4°C to 7°C above normal during this period.
In southern Pakistan, areas including Sibi, Dadu, and Nawabshah are predicted to experience extreme temperatures, reaching up to 48°C.
Other regions such as Sukkur and Turbat could see temperatures rise to 46°C, while areas like Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan may experience highs of 43°C to 42°C. Lahore is expected to reach 40°C.
The public, particularly vulnerable groups like senior citizens, children, and women, are advised to take precautionary measures to prevent heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to avoid direct sunlight and stay hydrated during the hot weather.
Meanwhile, a shallow westerly wave is expected to enter the northern regions of the country on Tuesday evening and remain until April 11.
This system is likely to bring dust and thunderstorms with occasional rainfall to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Pothohar region, and northeast Punjab.
Isolated hailstorms may also occur, with dust storms and gusty winds expected in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during this period.
