'Criminal' killed, cop hurt in separate shootings

Police also recover weapon and vehicle used by the suspects

RAWALPINDI:

An alleged criminal was killed, while a police constable was injured in separate incidents in Rawalpindi on Monday.

The first incident took place in the jurisdiction of the Airport Police Station (Chaklala) late at night, when four armed suspects in a car opened fire, resulting in the death of one suspect, identified as Asif.

According to police, police officials on duty attempted to stop the vehicle, suspecting it to be involved in suspicious activity. The suspects fired at the police while attempting to flee, leading to the fatal shooting of one suspect. The deceased's body was shifted to a hospital for legal formalities.

The police also recovered a weapon and the vehicle used by the suspects.

The second incident occurred near Chatti Graveyard in the Pirwadhai police limits where four armed suspects on two motorcycles opened fire when a police team attempted to stop them.

During the exchange of fire, Constable Amir Kaleem was injured by a bullet and was immediately shifted to Holy Family Hospital. The police encounter occurred at around 5:30am.

Police in both areas launched search operations to capture the fleeing suspects.
