Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that David Harbour will reprise his role as Red Guardian in Avengers: Doomsday.
The highly anticipated superhero blockbuster is set for release on May 1, 2026. The film, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, brings together a mix of returning MCU heroes and new characters as the franchise moves into Phase 6.
David Harbour first appeared as Alexei Shostakov, also known as Red Guardian, in Black Widow (2021), where he played Yelena Belova’s (Florence Pugh) father figure. He is also set to star in Thunderbolts (2025), which will introduce a team of anti-heroes to the MCU. His return in Avengers: Doomsday suggests that his character will have a larger role in the MCU’s expanding storyline.
The film features Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. Newcomers to the Avengers lineup include the Fantastic Four’s Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
A major surprise is the return of Robert Downey Jr., not as Tony Stark, but as the villain Doctor Doom, setting the stage for a multiversal clash.
With Avengers: Doomsday marking the first major team-up since Endgame (2019), excitement is building for what promises to be one of Marvel’s biggest films yet.
