Memphis Police have confirmed new details in the shooting that left rapper Sauce Walka injured and claimed the life of his artist, Sayso P, over the weekend. During a Sunday press conference, MPD Assistant Chief Don Crowe stated, “This appeared to be a targeted shooting incident.” The incident occurred outside the Westin Hotel near the FedEx Forum on Saturday afternoon.
According to authorities, the victims were standing near a vehicle when another car pulled up and multiple suspects exited, opened fire, and then fled the scene. “The victims and suspects are known to each other,” Crowe added, stressing, “This was not a random act of violence.”
Police have identified the suspect vehicle but have yet to make any arrests. Sauce Walka sustained a leg injury, while his artist Sayso P—real name Letorian Hunt—tragically died from his wounds. He was 27.
Sauce Walka addressed the shooting in a video on social media, saying, “R.I.P. Sayso P. In the name of my brother… I love Memphis. I love y’all. I have no hard feelings.”
Authorities say they are reviewing surveillance footage from downtown Memphis to track down those responsible.
