The Traffic Police, in collaboration with the Hog Bikers Club, organised a rally to promote road safety awareness among motorcyclists. The rally, led by DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, aimed to emphasise responsible driving practices and the importance of traffic rule compliance.
The rally commenced from Nishan-e-Haider at Sea View and passed through major city landmarks, including Teen Talwar, Do Talwar, Metropole, Sharae Faisal, Drigh Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, and MA Jinnah Road, before concluding at Mazar-e-Quaid, where participants offered Fateha. Heavy bike riders and Traffic Police personnel participated in the rally.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the DIG Traffic Police spoke about the growing concerns related to motorcycle safety, noting that motorcycles make up over 56% of the city's traffic, and a significant portion of road accident fatalities involve motorcyclists.
"It is not always the motorcyclist's fault in an accident, but precautionary measures can significantly reduce risks," he stated. He urged riders to wear helmets, ensure functional headlights, backlights, rearview mirrors, chain covers, and anti-gators, and avoid speeding and one-way violations to enhance road safety.
The DIG also shed light on serious infrastructural shortcomings, revealing that only 57 traffic signals are currently operational in the city, whereas 2,000 to 2,500 are required to regulate traffic effectively.
