Qurbonov awarded Sitara-i-Quaid-e-Azam; Amin Lakhani receives Tamgha-i-Imtiaz

ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Zardari on Sunday conferred Pakistan's civil awards on 69 personalities, including foreigners, in recognition of their outstanding services in various fields, at an investiture ceremony held at the Aiwan e Sadr.

The ceremony was attended by federal ministers, Senate chairman, parliamentarians, members of the civil society, diplomats, media and a large number of people. The awards were decorated on distinguished personalities in recognition of their services in health, education, literature, journalism, public, research, diplomatic matters and economy.

Those included former prime minister and founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who was awarded Nishan-i-Pakistan (posthumous) in recognition of his outstanding services to the country, democracy and the people. The award was received by his daughter, Sanam Bhutto.

Also among the recipients is Amin Lakhani, who was awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. Lakhani has been serving as the honorary consul general of Singapore here.

Amin Lakhani played a significant role in promoting relations between Pakistan and Singapore. His efforts led to increase in bilateral trade and facilitated in the issuance of 200,000 to the Pakistanis.

Haydar Qurbonov was conferred with Sitara-i-Quaid-e-Azam; Dr Christine Brunhilde, Sitara-i-Quaid-e-Azam; Agostino Da Polenza, Tamgha-i-Pakistan; Professor Valevia Piacentini, Tamgha-i-Pakistan; and Dr Xinmin Liu, Tamgha-i-Quaid-e-Azam.

On the occasion, Presidential Prize of Performance Award was conferred on Naveed Ahmad Fareed, Rashid Waheed Khawaja, Mohtarma Aniqa Bano, and Barkat Shah. Air Marshal (retd) Raja Shahid Hamid (late) was posthumously awarded Nishan-i-Imtiaz.
