LAHORE:

PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has been advised against travelling to Saudi Arabia in view of his health condition.

The former prime minister was scheduled to spend the last ten days of the holy month of Ramazan in Makkah and Madinah, according to his long standing habit.

Sources in the ruling party said Nawaz's physicians are of the view that he should not undertake an air travel.

They said the PML-N president's personal physician Dr Adnan has been conducting his checkup on a daily basis. Nawaz has also been advised to get a pacemaker installed, they added.

Nawaz Sharif, who returned to the country in October 2023 after a four-year long self-imposed exile, was diagnosed with a debilitating health condition while he was in jail facing a seven-year sentence in October 2019.

The PTI led federal government had then given him a rare permission to get medical treatment in London. Upon his return to the country, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) exonerated the PML-N president of the charges of corruption.

Nawaz, however, chose not to run for the premiership for the fourth time after his party failed to get a simple majority in the National Assembly in 2024 general elections.
