Adam Sandler is set to return to the golf course in the much-anticipated sequel, Happy Gilmore 2. The film will debut on Netflix on July 25, as revealed in the official trailer.
While Netflix has kept the storyline under wraps, the trailer shows Happy Gilmore facing new challenges as he prepares to go head-to-head with PGA professionals. However, true to form, his return to the game is filled with chaos and humor.
Sandler reprises his role as Happy Gilmore, and he’s joined by several familiar faces. Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller return to their roles, while new additions to the cast include Bad Bunny, NFL star Travis Kelce, and Sandler's daughters, Sadie and Sunny. The film also features appearances from real-life professional golfers such as John Daly, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Sandler gave fans a glimpse of the film last year during an appearance on The Tonight Show, teasing the sequel’s development: “We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it. We wrote our asses off,” Sandler said. “So many of the golfers are being nice and will be a part of it.”
Kelce, who has recently started exploring acting with roles in Grotesquerie and the upcoming action-comedy Loose Cannons, expressed his excitement for the project. In a May podcast, he shared his desire to appear in the sequel, and Sandler confirmed his involvement. “He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny,” Sandler remarked, though Kelce does not appear in the newly released trailer.
Directed by Kyle Newacheck, who previously worked with Sandler and Jennifer Aniston on Netflix’s Murder Mystery, Happy Gilmore 2 is co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, who also wrote the original film. Director Dennis Dugan returns as an executive producer. Fans can expect another hilarious adventure with the return of Happy Gilmore on July 25.
