Sir Syed Academy: Two publications promise to develop future leadership

ISLAMABAD:

Sir Syed Academy, dedicated to nurturing future generations, was inaugurated by the Sir Syed Memorial Society (SSMS) here on Thursday. The academy will produce two publications in line with its objectives.

The two publications, Ilm-o-Amal and Guldasta Tarbiat, aim to create leaders for the future, as the society believes Pakistan is currently facing a leadership vacuum.

SSMS President Brig(r) Iqbal Muhammad Shafi briefed the media at a press briefing session about the new academy and its publications.

Ilmo-Amal, a quarterly magazine that will be published both in English and Urdu, discusses and highlights the achievements of national heroes including Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Muhammad Iqbal. The academy will also publish a children’s book Guldasta Tarbiat which aims at children’s character building. Majeda Iqbal Shafi will be the English editor while Tariq Naeem will look over the Urdu edition.

Shafi said Pakistan is going through troubled times but we can meet all challenges through education. “As seventy percent population of the whole country falls in the young age group they must be educated to make Pakistan a strong literature nation.” He said they were planning to open Sir Syed University after government gives charter.

While quoting Jinnah’s speech of 1946, Shafi said, “Education does not include academics only; it inculcates strong character building of the future generation, it aims to develop the highest sense of honour, integrity, responsibility and selfless services to the nation.”

Director of the Academy Haleem Sharif also added that the Federal Directorate of Education has trained about 10,000 people in different cities to date and will continue training over the next few months.
