Police Thursday arrested five suspects in a shooting incident.
Unidentified armed men opened fire on a vehicle late Wednesday in Basin, about 12 kilometres from Gilgit, injuring three people.
According to the police, the vehicle was headed towards Basin from Gilgit at about 8pm when it was attacked. The incident spread panic in the city that has seen scores of sectarian clashes in the past.
“Five suspected have been arrested and are being questioned,” a police official said. He asked not to be named.
He said it was premature to comment on the nature of the incident.
According to a resident of Basin, the two brothers who were injured were Afzal and Javed, while the driver was also shot at. The injured were admitted to a hospital and are out of danger.
Police cordoned off the area and started a search operation intensifying patrolling of roads to prevent any further incidents.
