Ibrahim Ali Khan, the son of Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, recently made his debut in the film industry with Nadaaniyan, a Netflix romantic drama starring alongside Khushi Kapoor.

Despite the film's lukewarm reception, Ibrahim received a wave of support from his fans. However, his attempt to highlight the movie’s IMDb rating on social media has resulted in significant online backlash.

Ibrahim shared a fan's Instagram story featuring a screenshot of the film's IMDb rating. The screenshot displayed a 4.5/10 rating for Nadaaniyan but claimed that "almost 75% gave it 10 stars on IMDb."

The fan omitted the lower ratings below 6/10, creating a misleading representation of the film's reception. This selective editing didn’t go unnoticed, and social media users quickly pointed out the irony.

While Ibrahim Ali Khan re-shared the story on his Instagram, the post was soon deleted. However, it remains visible on the fan's page under the highlight titled ‘Ibrahim noticed.’

The re-post sparked immediate trolling, as many Reddit and Twitter users questioned why he would celebrate such a low overall IMDb rating. One user wrote, "If 75% gave it 10, how is the rating 4.5?" while another remarked, “How did 4.5 become a high rating on that app?”

The IMDb rating process, which is based on a weighted mean system, takes into account the value of votes from different users, meaning not all votes are treated equally.

However, the confusion caused by the re-shared post led to further online ridicule, with some users mocking Ibrahim for seemingly overlooking the movie's poor overall score. One comment bluntly asked, "Ye ekdum dumb he kya jo 4.5 pe khush ho raha hai?" ("Is he stupid to be happy with a 4.5 rating?").

The movie Nadaaniyan, which also stars Suniel Shetty, Mahima Chaudhry, Dia Mirza, and Jugal Hansraj, was released on March 7, 2025, and was immediately met with negative reviews.

Critics and audiences alike slammed the film’s storyline and performances. Despite its reception, the movie has sparked debates about the promotion of star-kids in Bollywood.

Ibrahim's performance in the film was specifically criticised, but his sister, actress Sara Ali Khan, came to his defence. Sara took to Instagram, posting stories showcasing the film’s ranking on Netflix, where Nadaaniyan held the No. 1 spot on the ‘Top 10 Movies in India’ list.

She shared her support for her brother, stating that despite the critical backlash, the film was still performing well on the streaming platform.

Despite the support from his family, the film's reception was less than stellar. The movie currently holds a 4.8/10 rating on IMDb and just 18% on Rotten Tomatoes, which further highlights the disconnect between its viewership ranking and critical reception.

In the midst of all this, Ibrahim Ali Khan is focused on his next project, Diler, hoping to leave behind the controversy surrounding his debut performance.
