Paris Saint-Germain ended Liverpool’s Champions League campaign in dramatic fashion, winning on penalties after a tense 1-1 aggregate draw at Anfield.

In the aftermath of the heartbreaking defeat, Liverpool's top-scorer Mohamed Salah was on the verge of tears as his side exited the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16.

Gianluigi Donnarumma emerged as the hero, saving spot-kicks from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones before Desire Doue sealed PSG’s quarterfinal place.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, PSG struck early through Ousmane Dembele, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up between Alisson and Ibrahima Konate in the 12th minute. Despite relentless Liverpool pressure, the visitors stood firm, with Donnarumma denying Luis Diaz and Jarell Quansah hitting the post.

Liverpool faded in extra time as PSG, inspired by Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, dominated. Alisson kept his side alive with crucial saves, but in the shootout, PSG held their nerve to secure a deserved victory.

PSG’s evolution under Luis Enrique

This win highlighted PSG’s transition from a star-studded squad to a balanced, cohesive unit. Their resilience at Anfield mirrored their first-leg dominance, despite losing to a late Harvey Elliott strike.

With Dembele finding form, Kvaratskhelia adding attacking depth, and Donnarumma proving decisive, PSG are emerging as serious contenders for the title.

Liverpool, flying high in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, now face their toughest setback of the season. Arne Slot’s side must regroup quickly ahead of their Wembley final against Newcastle United on Sunday.
