South Korean R&B singer Wheesung passed away on March 10 at the age of 43, confirmed Tajoy Entertainment. He was found unresponsive in his Seoul apartment by his mother after he failed to show up for a meeting earlier that day. His cause of death is yet to be confirmed, though initial reports suggest no signs of foul play.
Wheesung, born February 5, 1982, was a prominent figure in the Korean music industry, known for hits like “Can't I?” and “Incurable Disease.”
His career spanned over two decades, making a significant impact on the Korean music scene. He debuted in 2002 with his album Like a Movie, but it was his second album It’s Real (2003) that solidified his place in the R&B genre. Known for his smooth, soulful voice, Wheesung captivated fans with heartfelt ballads and dynamic songs that blended R&B, pop, and hip-hop.
Despite personal struggles, including battles with addiction, insomnia and depression, Wheesung earned numerous music awards and gained widespread acclaim for his ability to evoke raw emotion through his music.
Tributes have poured in from fellow musicians, especially within the hip-hop and R&B communities. Rapper Changmo expressed his sorrow, saying, “Thank you for influencing my life with your great music. May the deceased rest in peace.” Paloalto shared his grief, recalling Wheesung’s impact on his life, while Hangzoo posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, wishing the singer peace.
His funeral will be private, with only close family and friends in attendance, as per the wishes of his bereaved family.
