RAWALPINDI:

Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz, serving at the Rawalpindi Bench of the LHC, on Thursday submitted his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari, requesting its immediate acceptance.

Following his resignation, he ceased performing his judicial duties and informed the LHC chief justice, Aalia Neelum, of his decision. In his resignation letter, Justice Aziz cited personal engagements as the reason for stepping down.

The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) president and senior lawyers expressed surprise over his resignation, calling it a significant loss for the judiciary.

Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz was appointed as a judge of the LHC in November 2016 and had been serving in this capacity for the past eight and a half years. During his tenure, he delivered rulings on a record 40,000 cases.

He ranked 19th on the seniority list of judges and was scheduled to retire on September 8, 2033, meaning he had eight more years left in his judicial career. Known for his professionalism and independence, he was considered a judge who did not succumb to any external pressure.
