HED to expand internship opportunities for students

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department (HED) is working to create internship opportunities for students in various industrial units across the province.

A high-level meeting in this regard was held on Thursday in the committee room of the HED, chaired by the Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi.

The meeting focused on maximizing internship opportunities for students currently enrolled in BS programs at government colleges, as well as recent graduates.

Senior officials, including the Special Secretary for Higher Education, Additional Secretaries, Director Colleges, and concerned officers from the Higher Education and Youth Affairs Departments, attended the meeting.

During the session, the Additional Director Colleges (HED) provided a detailed briefing on various initiatives aimed at expanding internship opportunities for students.

It was revealed that discussions have been held with industrialists, government institutions, and non-governmental organizations in Peshawar, Mardan, and Hazara to create maximum internship opportunities for college students.

Furthermore, a positive response has been received from these sectors, and similar visits to other districts are ongoing to expand the initiative across the province.

The provincial minister appreciated the HED's efforts in creating internship opportunities and directed the department to ensure the implementation of mandatory internships in line with the Higher Education Commission's policy.

He also instructed that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) be signed between the Higher Education and Youth Affairs Departments to facilitate internship opportunities for students from both the merged tribal districts and settled areas.

Additionally, he emphasized the need to create internship opportunities in fields such as Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. To achieve this, he directed the Higher Education and Youth Affairs Departments to collaborate with the University of Engineering and Technology (UET).

The meeting also discussed other key aspects related to internship programs.
