Disney has cancelled the UK premiere of its upcoming £212 million live-action Snow White film, reportedly to avoid backlash.

The highly anticipated remake, starring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, is set for release on March 21, 2025. However, unlike previous Disney blockbusters, the studio has opted for a low-key press rollout instead of a star-studded Leicester Square event.

An industry insider told the Daily Mail, “Disney are already anticipating an anti-woke backlash against Snow White and have reduced the media schedule to just a handful of tightly controlled press events.”

The film has faced ongoing criticism, particularly regarding its casting choices. Zegler, who is half-Colombian and half-Polish, was met with backlash for portraying the traditionally German fairytale character. She also made controversial remarks about the 1937 original, calling it “dated” and criticising Prince Charming’s role as a “guy who literally stalks her”.

Additionally, pro-Palestinian activists have called for a boycott over the casting of Gal Gadot, who has publicly supported Israel.

Beyond casting, Disney also faced scrutiny for removing the Seven Dwarfs from the title, opting instead for magical creatures, which has further divided audiences.

Despite the UK premiere being scrapped, Disney will still host an event in the US, where Zegler, Gadot, and Andrew Burnap (Prince Charming) are expected to attend.
