Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, made an unexpected statement about Drake, revealing he wants the rapper to speak at his funeral.
On March 5, Ye took to X (formerly Twitter) to reflect on a video of Drake showcasing a collection of rhyme books in his home. He admitted that “jealousy overtook” him in the past but now appreciates Drake’s artistry. "I love Drake. I'ma say this when I die I need you to speak at me [sic] funeral," he wrote in all caps.
Ye and Drake have had a complicated history, oscillating between rivalry and reconciliation. Their most publicized moment of unity came in December 2021 when they performed together at the Free Larry Hoover benefit concert. However, tensions resurfaced after Ye’s controversial Like That remix, though he has recently praised Drake on multiple occasions, referring to him as the “realest one” last month.
While his praise for Drake drew attention, Ye’s other posts that day sparked backlash, as he once again embraced controversial rhetoric, including remarks on slavery and Nazi symbolism. He wrote, “Slavery is a mutherfucking choice,” while criticizing education systems and claiming that textbooks are designed to keep people “broke and controlled.”
His statements drew mixed reactions online, with some questioning his intentions while others condemned his rhetoric. Ye concluded his string of posts with another cryptic statement: "White pussy my cocain [sic]."
Ye’s latest remarks add to a history of inflammatory statements, which have previously led to professional fallout, including the loss of major brand partnerships.
