IB official shot dead in Peshawar

An Intelligence Bureau (IB) official was martyred in a targeted attack from unknown assailants on the Warsak Road in Peshawar on Wednesday, police said.

Inspector Shahid Anwar was shot dead, while he was going for duty. His vehicle was fired upon within the limits of Machni Gate police station. The police said that he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds while he was being taken to a hospital.

Initial investigation showed, according to the police, a Kalashnikov rifle was used in the shooting. This was second target killing incident in Peshawar in a month. Last month, unidentified attackers targeted a local Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Maulana Qazi Zahoor Ahmed.

The funeral prayers for martyred Inspector Shahid Anwar were offered at the Police Lines. Peshawar Police Chief Qasim Ali Khan, IB Joint Director General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Arshad Ali Khan Tareen, senior police officials and relatives of the martyr attended the funeral.
