Instead of discarding water used to boil eggs, gardeners can use it as a natural fertiliser, experts suggest. The water, enriched with calcium from eggshells, offers an eco-friendly way to nourish plants.
“When eggs are boiled, their shells release calcium into the water, creating a simple and chemical-free fertiliser,” a gardening expert said. The mineral is particularly beneficial for calcium-loving plants such as tomatoes and peppers, helping to strengthen their cell walls and promote healthy growth.
To use, simply allow the water to cool before pouring it onto garden or indoor plants. Calcium also helps balance soil pH, enhancing nutrient absorption.
This practice not only supports plant health but also reduces kitchen waste. “It’s an easy and sustainable way to make the most of everyday cooking byproducts,” the expert added.
With growing interest in sustainable gardening, boiled egg water is gaining attention as a cost-free and natural plant booster.
