ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered the police to register a case against the Superintendent Police CTD, SHO Secretariat and other police officials in a case against for allegedly keeping a citizen in illegal detention.

IHC's Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard the case wherein DSP Legal Islamabad police appeared before the court. The DSP Legal proposed that the department would form a joint investigation team (JIT) on alleged illegal detention of citizen Ali Muhammad.

Justice Kayani rejected the request and remarked that there is no JIT, if one person can understand a matter, then there is no need for three. He questioned that has there ever been an investigation without registering an FIR?

Justice Kayani heard the petition of the father of citizen, Ali Muhammad. The court was informed that the statement of Ali Muhammad, who was allegedly kept in illegal detention by the police, has been recorded before the magistrate.

Petitioner's lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat read out Ali Muhammad's statement under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code. The DSP Legal said that we have not yet received a copy of Ali Muhammad's statement.

Justice Kayani remarked that he should tell the IGP to register a case against the police officials.
