Adrien Brody claimed Best Actor at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, 2025, for his role in The Brutalist, portraying László Tóth, a Hungarian-Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor. While many applauded his performance, Timothée Chalamet’s fans were quick to argue that he deserved the Oscar for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

Social media erupted with reactions, with many users lamenting Chalamet’s loss. One fan wrote, “Timothée Chalamet, the Oscar will be yours one day.” Another compared his repeated snubs, tweeting, “Watching Timothée Chalamet lose the Oscar in 2018 and now in 2025.”

Others took issue with the use of AI in Brody’s performance, with one post stating, “Timothée Chalamet lost the #Oscars after taking singing lessons for five years, gaining weight, and doing everything to deliver the best character possible—only to lose to Adrien Brody, who used AI.”

Some viewers also critiqued Brody’s acceptance speech, with a user commenting, “Is he gonna talk forever? So annoying, say thank you and get out.” Others called the win undeserved, tweeting, “Omg Adrien congrats on the AI for your Oscar. So undeserved.”

However, Brody had his fair share of supporters, with one fan praising his talent, writing, “His ability to completely disappear into roles is what makes him such a force. Few actors commit to their characters like Brody does.” Another celebrated his win, tweeting, “Adrien is the one I wanted!”

Brody, who previously won Best Actor in 2003 for The Pianist, addressed the unpredictable nature of acting in his Oscars 2025 acceptance speech, stating, “This is a very fragile profession. It doesn’t matter what someone has achieved, it could all go away in a moment.” He also thanked his partner, Georgina Chapman. Meanwhile, The Brutalist also won Best Original Score (Daniel Blumberg) and Best Cinematography (Lol Crawley), adding to its Oscars success.

Despite Brody’s victory, the Oscars 2025 Best Actor race remains a hot topic, with Chalamet’s supporters convinced he was snubbed yet again.
