Actor and comedian Adam Sandler made an unexpected appearance at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, 2025, despite not being a nominee.
The ceremony, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and hosted by Conan O’Brien, featured several humorous moments—including O’Brien taking a jab at Sandler’s casual outfit.
As O’Brien delivered his opening monologue, he called out Sandler for his choice of attire, which included a sweatshirt and gym shorts. “You’re dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m.,” O’Brien quipped.
In response, Sandler defended his look, joking that no one had questioned it until O’Brien pointed it out. “I like the way I look. Because I’m a good person,” he added, feigning outrage at being publicly teased.
Leaning into the bit, Sandler pretended to storm out of the ceremony, much to the amusement of the audience. Before making his exit, he made sure to grab attention one last time by loudly shouting “Chalamet!” into Timothée Chalamet’s ear.
Delivered in Sandler’s signature comedic style, the moment drew laughter from attendees as he embraced Chalamet, who stood out in a yellow suit.
On his way out, Sandler kept the jokes going by inviting everyone to a late-night basketball game at Veteran Park with a “midnight tipoff.”
In a comedic slip-up, he attempted to reference Nosferatu, one of the evening’s nominated films, but mispronounced the title, adding to the humor.
The Oscars maintained a lighthearted tone throughout the night, with O’Brien’s monologue continuing the comedic energy.
