The 97th Academy Awards saw Hollywood's biggest stars grace the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, but Zendaya and Tom Holland were noticeably absent—despite the actress' film, Dune: Part Two, being nominated for Best Picture.

The actress, who attended last year’s ceremony, did not walk the red carpet, fueling fan speculation. Many believe she skipped the event due to the Oscars snubbing her romantic sports drama, Challengers, which failed to receive a single nomination.

Social media erupted with theories about why the Golden Globe-winning star was missing. One fan wrote,“Next time, please nominate or find a job for Zendaya because the carpet this year is a snooze.” Another wrote, “Didn’t care about the Oscars anyway, but the fact that Challengers didn’t get any nominations and Zendaya isn’t attending makes me care even less.”

Despite fan speculation, Zendaya has not addressed why she skipped the event.

The actress remains busy with upcoming projects, including starring alongside Robert Pattinson in The Drama, filming Euphoria Season 3, and working on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

While Dune: Part Two won the awards for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects, it did not replicate the technical category sweep of the 2021 original.
