Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to attend the 97th Academy Awards, prompting an unprecedented security lockdown around the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Security has been intensified, with LAPD, federal law enforcement, and private security creating a fortified perimeter around the event. Streets have been blocked, bomb squads are on standby, and drones are being deployed for surveillance. Hollywood Blvd remains gated from Cahuenga to La Brea, with no public access to Highland Avenue.

While it remains unclear if Harris will present an award, her attendance has contributed to heightened security protocols. A federal official confirmed to Deadline that her presence is a key factor in the increased measures but emphasized that “there are no credible threats.”

Oscar attendees and press members are facing stricter credentialing, including additional pre-screening and a new green lanyard requirement for reporters. One insider criticized the system as outdated, suggesting AI-based security solutions would be more effective.

Harris has been active on the awards circuit this season, recently attending the NAACP Image Awards, where she warned of “shadows gathering over our democracy.” She also appeared at CAA boss Bryan Lourd’s private Oscar party on March 1, further fueling speculation about her post-political career moves.

With the political climate in flux, it remains uncertain if Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, will make it inside the Dolby Theatre. However, her anticipated appearance is already making waves in both Hollywood and Washington.
